Reaffirming Our Commitment: DEI and the BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin

Amid the current political climate and the ongoing attacks on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), we want to take a moment to reaffirm what the BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin stands for and why we exist.

Our Mission

The BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin creates safe, inclusive spaces for people of color to explore the outdoors through birding activities and nature experiences. We invite individuals and families of all ages and skill levels to join us, whether you’re a seasoned birder or discovering the joy of birding for the first time.

Our Core Belief

We firmly believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion strengthen us as a community and nation. These principles aren’t just buzzwords—they’re the foundation of our mission and the driving force behind everything we do.

Why We’re Here

This club was founded with one clear purpose: to bring more Black and Brown people, often from underrepresented groups, into the outdoors. For too long, these spaces have not been accessible or welcoming to everyone. We are here to change that.

Through birding, we aim to provide opportunities to experience the joy, beauty, and peace that nature offers. The connection between birds, people, and the environment is universal, and we believe that everyone deserves to share in that experience.

Standing Strong in Our Values

As the political landscape shifts, we remain steadfast in our mission. We will not compromise on our values or waver in our belief that the outdoors—and the birds we love—are for everyone.

In a time when DEI is under attack, we reaffirm our commitment to creating spaces where all people feel seen, heard, and welcomed. This club exists not just for birding but to celebrate the diversity and strength of our community.

A Call to Action

To our community: thank you for your ongoing support. Together, we are building something powerful—a community that uplifts, inspires, and connects. Let’s continue working to make the outdoors a place where everyone belongs.

Join us in celebrating diversity and joy in nature. Let’s keep building this incredible community together.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
