Sod farms are places where shorebirds show up in the early parts of fall migration. The end of August and beginning of September can be good for getting black-bellied and golden plovers, buff breasted sandpipers, and a variety of other shorebirds. We can also expect to find brewers black birds foraging in the same fields, while dickcissels, meadowlarks, and other grassland birds might be found in the grassier edges.
Each year is different, and sometimes the birds are farther away and will need to be viewed through a scope, while at other times they are close and provide great views and photo opportunities. The BIPOC Birding Club seems to have that good birding luck, so join us and add to that luck.
What to expect: This event requires a minimal amount of walking, as we will be birding near where we park and can get in our cars to get to another viewing area. There are gravel areas for easy parking. There are no restrooms, and we will be about a 6-minute drive from the nearest gas station.
Note: Jasperson Sod Farms on Google Maps will bring you to Burmeister Road, about a mile west of the the corner of Burmeister and North Britton Road
