The Milwaukee Area Land Conservancy is inviting the BIPOC Birding Club to the Carity Prairie, which is 23 acres of land in the suburb of Franklin that the conservancy is preserving and restoring. Throughout this preserve, we will explore a native mesic prairie, a sedge meadow, and an oak savannah. We will also walk by a man-made pond and the permitter of farm fields.
Members of the Milwaukee Area Land Conservancy board and volunteers will join us to guide us through the land and point out areas of interest. They are excited for us to eBird our sightings. Rita the looney lister is ready to keep our list! They also invite us to visit the property often to do bird surveys and perhaps we can return in 2025 to see what migrates through or nests at Carity Prairie.
Directions
We’ll meet at the end of the street called Prairie Grass Way (42.88210692277, -88.03942313751281) in Franklin. This is about the 9800 block of Prairie Grass Way.
What to Expect
We will be walking through mowed paths and might venture a bit off path. Expect uneven, unpaved grassy trails.
As always, birders of all skill levels are welcome and we have child- and adult-sized binoculars available for those who’d like to borrow a pair!
