The inaugural Milwaukee area BIPOC Birding Club event was at Havenwoods, Wisconsin’s only urban state forest. We explored this beautiful land at the cusp of winter. Join us as we return in June to an area that has many nesting bird species including Willow Flycatchers, Bluebirds, many species of sparrows, Indigo Buntings and more. Our good BIPOC Birding Club magic vibes may get us good looks at the more elusive nesters such as Brown Thrashers, Black- and Yellow-billed Cuckoos, Soras, and Virginia Rails.
What to Expect
We’ll meet at the parking lot at 8:30. The education building opens at 8:30 and has bathrooms and interesting exhibits to explore. Trails are mostly flat. If there is recent rain, some parts might get muddy.
Note: Although this is a state forest, you will not need a state park sticker in order to join us!
After our event, feel free to stay and join our partners, Nearby Nature in their celebration of Lincoln Creek from 11 am to 3pm. They’ll have food, fun, games, and educational displays!
