The Schlitz Audubon Nature Center contains varied habitat and is right on the shores of Lake Michigan, making it an ideal spot for both nesting and migrating birds. The Center's bird checklist includes 238 species. We will bird the grounds and be on the lookout for both resident and fall migrating birds.
Schlitz Audubon has both uneven hiking trails as well as wheelchair accessible trails – paved, crushed gravel, and boardwalks. Some of the paved trails are hilly. We will stick to trails that are accessible for all of us. There should be plenty to see. At 11:00 am we will head to the raptor facility where Lindsay Obermeier, the Raptor Program & Animal Ambassador Director, will let us meet some of the education raptors. This will be a good opportunity to learn about raptors, see them up close, and perhaps get a few good photos.
When you arrive at the Center, mention to the gate attendant that you are with the BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin, and you will be admitted without cost. Follow the road to the parking lot. We will meet at the Center.
