The Cedarburg Bog, a designated Important Bird Area (IBA), is an irregularly shaped sprawling mosaic of cedar swamp, hardwood swamp, conifer bog, southern hardwood forest, pine plantation, sedge meadow, native grassland, willow/alder/dogwood swamp, and six relict lakes surrounded by emergent vegetation.

We will meet at the UWM Field Station and walk a portion of the bog that is only accessible by explicit permission or by accompaniment on a guided hike to protect the sensitive plant species.

Our guides, John O'Donnell and Chuck Stebelton, will be able to point out the interesting plant life as we also watch for the birds that make the bog home.

A total of 232 bird species have been documented at the Cedarburg Bog.

To learn more, check out the website.

Expect uneven trails and narrow board walks.
